I ride my bike a lot along the Campbell Creek bike trail in Anchorage and I always take a camera. I've photographed this young cow moose several times and I was surprised to come upon her at Taku Lake looking quite beat up. At first I thought she'd been attacked by dogs or maybe a bear, but soon figured out she had road rash, same as a bike racer gets when he crashes and slides over the pavement. She had apparently been hit by a car. She wasn't limping and didn't seem otherwise hurt, but she appeared traumatized. She walked over to me and sniffed and nuzzled my jacket, as if looking for emotional support. I haven't seen her since this day and I hope she's doing well.
