Caribou meat drying on a rack is checked by a young man at a fish camp near Kotzebue. Each morning the caribou wander down into the camp, and two were shot the day before. The meat is dried into strips which are similar to jerky. It is called "black meat" and is a staple of the traditional Inupiaq Eskimo diet.
