Kotzebue

The line between sea and land has been a critical zone for the human race since the beginning. Eskimo boys, whose culture is defined by that interface, play on the beach near Kotzebue, Alaska.

Thanks, J. One theory is that the first people in the new world moved along the shore in seaworthy boats. They were related to the Ainu of Japan, and became the modern Aleuts. The reason the New World was otherwise uninhabited was because of the cave bear, four times the size of the modern grizzly. When the ice age was ending and the cave bear died out people started migrating over the land bridge from what is now modern Chukotka. The sea in the Arctic is so rich that they didn't venture far from the shore. James Mason
