Fedor den Hertog

Holland's Fedor den Hertog was considered the top amateur road rider going into the 1972 Olympics and was the favorite in the Olympic event. But victory went to his team mate Hennie Kuiper.

I'm sorry to hear den Hertog passed away. He was the favorite in the race that day. I'm sure you are right, that this is not Kuiper. I'll do some quick research and see what I can find, just to be certain. Thank you.

Dear Mr. Mason, this is indeed a beautiful picture. However, I am almost 100% certain that the pictured cyclist is not Hennie Kuiper, but instead his fellow teammate Fedor den Hertog. On other pictures of the winning Hennie Kuiper, it is clear that he is not wearing race number 191 but 194.
The sad thing is that Fedor den Hertog has died last weekend, which has obviously left the Dutch cycling community in shock and in mourning. Kind regards.

All most all the black and white images were shot on Tri-X. A few times I tried Ilford HP5, particularly when they sold 72-exposure rolls. And there are some images with the XP1 and XP2 chromogenic films. I developed the Tri-X in D76 straight on Nikor reels. The development technique ranges from pretty bad to getting better. In some cases the negatives were not well treated and I have to do a lot of Photoshopping to clean them up.
