Liberty ship Thomas Wolfe

My dad wrote on the back of the print "our last view of the Thomas." The 91st was on the LCM heading for the beach. Early in 2011 the Thomas Wolfe Museum contacted me to say they did not have a photograph of the ship named for the writer and would it be possible for them to get a large digital image. I sent them a copy of this photo so it now hangs in the museum.

Whit, my father in law, served with your dad. Wow. What a find to find your photos while going through Dr Whitworth’s military files and photos. Whit was chief maxillo- facial plastic surgeon for the 91st. In looking at your photos, I see Whit has the same photo with O’Brien, Rosenberg, and Mason (assume it is your dad) taken in the stateroom. Whit died in January 1998. His son, my husband Charles was almost 2 yrs old when Whit went oversees.Dr. Walton S Whitworth.

My father in law was on this ship on June 9, 1944 sailing from South Hampton. Dr Walton S Whitworth with nurses and other physicians. Arrived at Sugar Red Beach, a section of Utah Beach on June 10, 1944. From June to September set up hospitals at Insignia, Boutteville, Pont L’Abbe, Marigny, Brecy, and Gyancourt.

My Grandfather served on Thomas Wolfe and I've been trying to get a picture of the vessel for my father. He was a Scottish farmer who volunteered to serve on the Liberty Ships I believe as an observer/recognition expert due to the work he had done prior to the Normandy invasion.

John, My father's unit went from England to Normandy on the Thomas Wolfe. That was the only time he was on it. So the date would have been June 5th to 9th 1944.

I have a relative that was on the Thomas Wolfe in April of 1945. Was your father on the ship then? His name was David Prye.

WWII Images of your father's added dimension. I have seen images in books. But reading your father's descriptions made me wonder more....There is enough now that I want to know more.
