During the Great Earthquake of 1906 in San Francisco, Sarah was trapped in her bedroom for a
short time. She was convinced that the spirits were angry that she was nearing completion of
the front part of the mansion. She boarded up the front of the house, leaving it unrepaired,
and moved herself to the rear portion of the house.
