11th August

Driving past Kingarth earlier i saw a plane tail sticking up in the air,
from the distance i couldn't tell if it was parked like that(wouldn't surprise me!) or had crashed
so i turned round and walked down to have a look in the pouring rain.
it had crashed, it had over shot the runway, crashed through a fence and landed in the next field,
the thing was left completely open, all the pilots belongings were there getting wet and everything.
I rang home and got my mum to ring the police station because i couldn't get much of a signal
and to ask them if they knew about it, they didn't and sent an officer out to take a look.

anyway, the 74 year old pilot turned up later safe and uninjured,
but the plane which he has had for 17 years and has flew to Spain and Italy in is a write off.

There's always something happening on Bute.

You do get lucky (as did someone else in this case). I can't even manage to pass the strip when there's a plane parked in it, let alone doing something. If not for you pics, I'd think it was never even used.

go ahead, tottguy!

Great work Zak, good to know he was OK. Nice that you stopped to check! VOTE

I bet the pilot really loves you for publicising his faux-pas! But as a hard-nosed photo-journalist you have to get the story!! LOL

You served a great purpose. And that shot ought to make the Daily Bute.

oooh, Glad nobody got hurt.
Zak please can I use this pic on my blog?
Will give full credit and copyrights to you.

Oh dear, so glad to hear the old man was okay!

I suspect the plane can be restored, but I doubt if the 74 year old fancies being a pilot anymore. Well done on being there and alerting the police.

You're right, there's always something happening on Bute. Hope you've offered the shot to the local paper! Glad the pilot is okay.

Great shots... -- even though the story's a little sad... (V)

What a nice little plane, too. Good for you for reporting it, Zak. Glad you did not find a body in it. Golfers live in another world when they're on the green.
Johnny JAG11-Aug-2007 18:58
I think the correct word is Ooops. The golfers didn't react because the pilot didn't shout FORE.
Liz 11-Aug-2007 18:50
Unbelievable! Glad the pilot got out of it. You have a great career ahead of you as a photo-journalist! Ever thought about it?
Gail Davison11-Aug-2007 18:33

Well, you should be getting one of those pics in The Buteman this week!

Nice find Zak, glad he's OK.
You don't often walk away in one piece.

Lucky the ground was there to break its fall :-0

You make a good reporter, I have my own thoughts about golfers not to be shared on pbase. :)
Jackdad11-Aug-2007 14:56
a sinister photo. glad the pilot was ok. those golfers should be ashamed of themselves.
Sheila11-Aug-2007 14:49
