I can assure Alan B Paisley there are still some genuine Rothesay people left
and I agree 100% with all the points he has made.

Re Jenny Faa I think you will find the Brandanes refer to Monatague Street as Montaiga Street not Montaig
AlanB Paisley 09-Mar-2011 00:19
Sorry but real Rothesay people do call it Montague Street and not 'Montaig' same as they call Ballochgoy - Ballochgoy and not 'The Goy' and put an 's' at the end of Winter Garden!
Maybe I have been away too long and there are no real Rothesay people left.

Neither lender nor borrower be.......now that's an oldie that I often heard from a gentleman born in Rothesay in 1874.
Jenny Faa 08-Mar-2011 19:37
No. The shop's still in Montague Street, that's the workshop. Btw I had to learn that proper Brandanes say "montaig" street, not "montaig-you" street. So there!

Have Bute Tools moved from Montague Street to Tower Street
Jenny Faa 08-Mar-2011 17:56
Well spotted! You can't quite see the sign at Bute Tools: "Neither a borrower nor a lender be, get you tools from Willie McFee" [He owns Bute Tools, btw]

Interesting the way you have caught John from one shop and Knoxs on the other!
