Only a few years out :-)) this is a Cold War relic.

Royal Observer Corp, Nuclear monitoring post, would have measured size of atomic/nuclear bomb blasts, and monitored the subsequent fallout and contamination.

The World War II observer's post is understood to have lain in the hills above Port Bannatyne, which makes sense given HMS Varbel's sensitive operations in the waters below.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are these not WW2 Observer Corps lookout thingies (perhaps not exactly the correct term) that've been restored. Or maybe beehives.
