The Birch Bayh Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse was built in 1905. It was originally built to house Federal courts, offices and the main city post office. The exterior is of Indiana limestone and is detailed in neoclassical style. The Indianapolis U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building is an excellent example of the Classical Revival style of architecture which was popular for public buildings at the turn of the century.
