Kakunodate 角館

A small city known for its well-preserved samurai houses and abundant cherry blossoms, Kakunodate is often called Tōhoku's "Little Kyoto". Formerly a castle town in the early Edo period, it was incorporated into the city of Semboku in 2005, but remains a notable stop on the Akita Shinkansen (bullet train line).
