Hirado 平戸

The main city of Hirado-shima, a long island off the northwest coast of Kyūshū in Nagasaki-ken, a gateway to the West in the 17th century. A center of trade for the Dutch (before they were forced to move to Dejima in Nagasaki), Hirado also boasts an interesting Christian history and traces of old English influence.
