Arlo Jenkins, AKA 'Our Little Man', 'Winky', 'Blinky', 'Bonky' and 'Binky' and 'Ninja'.
When we first saw him, we were visiting the sanctuary and spending time with the puppies.
Arlo stumbled towards us from out of a corner. We hadn't even noticed him for all the excitement with the pups.
He was looking for water and wondering what the commotion was about.
The pups had knocked over the bowl. When we saw him licking at the stone floor for water, it just broke our hearts.
We could see he was blind, and we just had to bring him home with us.
The image up above is shortly after we brought Arlo home in late March of 2019.
Their vet stated he was at least 12 years of age here.
If that were true, then Arlo lived to be nearly 18 years of age.
He was a traveler's dog who could no longer breed or hunt.
Pat at Deise Animal Sanctuary in Waterford, Ireland was kind enough to let us take him in.
He was blind, very sickly, thin, full of worms and had lost much of his fur.
We took him in assuming he may not live for very much longer, and set about making his life as good as we could manage.
We thought we may be bringing him home to die in peace, he was in such a terrible state.
It turned out to be five and a half wonderful loved-filled years later before he would leave us.
He was, by far, the best pet I had ever had, and we love him dearly. Losing him is absolutely devastating for the both of us.
The lovely little lad was laid to rest in Gurteen, Ireland on September 16th, 2024 next to his siblings Fia, Carlow and Shadow.
Rest peacefully, Arlo. God bless and keep you. We hope to see you again one day.
You made all our lives so much better. You meant the world to us.
