I also usually shoot at ISO 400 because shutter speed is so important with a long lens. Some of my woodpecker shots were even at ISO 800, and I've shot some squirrel pix at ISO 1600 with decent results -- you can reduce noise easier than you can fix a blurry image!

Michael - I hardly ever go for ISO200, 400 is noise free for my purposes, and if there's something remaining,
gimp will take care of it. Yes that guy was hand held. I took it off the tripod as soon as the sun came out and
the big beast didn't disappoint (it is actually as sharp as F8 at F4)

This one is a real masterpiece, Wolfgang. One of your best in my opinion. And I must say, your 500mm lens is as sharp as a tack at F-8. I noticed that you went for more shutter speed instead of a lower ISO. Hand-held?

Wow this is just fantastic. I love how natural this shot is. The way it's feet are positioned and the seed in it's mouth. This Warbler is just beautiful, I cast my vote!
