In 1944 a Consolidated B-24 Liberator serving in England took flight to battle the Germans during World War II. The pilot was Hershel "Smitty" Smith and his radioman was John D. "Brownie" Brown. The wives of both men were expecting babies in September that same year. This inspired the plane's name and nose art. Mike Brown, John Brown’s son, continues the tradition on his racer, September Pops. Sporting a Wright R-3350 and a distinct paint scheme, race 911 has made itself a definite crowd favorite.
