The Sam Knob Summit Trail begins to the right of the stinky pit toilets at the end of Black Balsam Rd. It's a 1.3 mile hike to the summit - medium in difficulty - but if you can't do the summit you can do an easy 1/2 mile or so to the meadow at the base for some great views of the surrounding mountains. Go in the morning for the best light.
