My colleague and friend Albert Ghiorso, legendary hunter of transuranic elements at Ernest Lawrence's Berkeley Laboratory, with a world-record dozen discoveries of new elements to his credit, died Dec. 26, 2010, at the age of 95, of heart failure. He came into work every day until he was well past 90. He was a remarkably inventive scientist. The photo was taken at a symposium in honor of his 90th birthday.
