Oct 21: Burning the French Boat

This evening, in celebration of Nelson seeing the off the French 200 years ago, lots of things have been set on fire. Beacons were lit all along the coast and here at Looe, as well as a beacon up on the hill, we burned the French boat. Or, rather, as we're friends with the French these days, a pile of straw bales arranged in the shape of a boat...

a point 'n' shoot I found in the woods

Typically British. Some blokes killed a load of foreign blokes 200 years ago so we set fire to something on the beach 200 years later, and spend thousands of pounds on a light-show in London.

I heard about that Trafalgar Night tradition for the first time today. . . we have a Brit DDS here and he was very enlightening about ya'all's tradition =)

I'm amazed at all the celebrations you all are having. This is nicely done in terms of lighting and still catching the fire. A toast to Lord Nelson and Hail to the Queen.

Must be a southern, or a coast, thing....we've only seen the celebrations on TV.
