Feb 17: Wine and candle light

I was going to say that this was just a snapshot. Linda had poured the wine and I grabbed this shot quickly before enjoying the wonderful red stuff. But my definition of a snapshot is a photograph that you don't go out of your way to take. Like a photo of a flower you just happen to see as you're out walking. Click, pretty flower. But, what if you change the mode of camera, choose a white balance setting or change lenses? I was sitting at the table, but I didn't have to go and fetch the camera. I didn't have to decide to use AV mode and the 50mm lens at f1.8. What about changing the ISO to 800. So snapshot? You decide. Pretty picture anyway... :-)

Doesn't look like a snapshot to me.

I love the rich gold and brown tones. I concur with Simon's comment, I need more wine…

I'd like to know how you took this photo of my wine (just picked up the glass!) from so far away... cheers.

Can't possibly be, snapshots are taken on "P" mode!

Snapshot to me is something that is not composed.. not thought about. Just a quick snap for posterity's sake - no thought to lighting or grabbing the "feel" of what you shoot. It goes for people, places, things.. This is thought out - regardless to how long you took to shoot it. The fact that you've been doing photography for so long might just mean you can gauge it all in your head instinctively.
One mans snap is another man's fantastic image. Excellent lighting in the background, reflecting on the stems..
