This is a special thing. Not because of what it is, but what it represents. In 1991, I entered my previous Beetle, 'Bogart' in the Volkswagen Drag Racing Club's 'Street' class, intended for regularly driven road legal VWs. I did quite well. I was runner up in class for the year. It went right down to the wire with myself and Mark Humphries. Although I won the final round, Mark had gained enough points by reaching the quarter-final to clinch the title. All great fun, I made loads of friends, and have lot's of good memories of that years racing.
I also believe that the whole PaD phenomenon is special. Through the commitment of other PaD contributors, I've seen when the snow starts to fall in Canada. I've seen where the dogs run their border patrol in Alaska, and where hot water runs through miles of pipelines in Iceland. I've seen places and people that I'd never have otherwise have seen. I've seen these things in photographs that only exist because someone made a personal commitment to take a photograph every day and post it here on PBase. Photographs that wouldn't exist if those people only used their cameras when they were in the photo mood. Photographs people take of the ordinary places and things around them. Photographs that show to others how different life is away from their own ordinary places and things.
As I type this I'm listening to a rather special CD that arrived by airmail this morning. It's from a musician who's asked to use one of my PaD photographs on the cover. A photograph I might not have taken, or might not have posted, if I hadn't made a commitment to myself to take and post a photograph a day.
That is why the PaD is special to me, and that's why I'll continue to take a photograph a day for as long as I can.
