LA's been ripping the old kitchen apart. I saw a softwood batten that was just the right size to make an Ukulele neck. So I cut a scarf joint and glued it up, tappered the neck with a plane. Satisfied with my efforts, I sawed it in half and put it on the fire. Huh? Well, it was Just an experiment really. It's the wrong type of wood, and flat sawn with way too much grain runout, but it was easy to work. So, now I know how it's done, I've got my eye on some mahogany in the cupboard door frames...
