With all due respect to the PETA people (yeah right) this is a centuries old tradition in our society.
My 22 y/o son is the 5th generation to hunt on a piece of wilderness property bought by my great-grandfather almost a century ago.
There are lots of whitetail deer hunted by all, but turkey hunting always had a place near to my dad's heart before he died five years ago.
It's been a good decade since anyone in my family has shot a wild turkey.
It is therefore fitting that the day before thanksgiving my son went out and bagged his first-ever turkey.
For those of you who may wonder why Ben Franklin wanted a plastic-covered uber-processed devoid-of-soul frozen supermarket bird to be our national symbol this photo might be enlightening.
They are magnificent creatures, and they taste good too....even if they've never been injected, plastic shrink-wrapped and frozen.
This one's getting fried up on Friday. The fat supermarket one's in the oven for the extended family thanksgiving.
