That's a photo Dave shot of me after I retuned from the last trip I took to hawaii, way back in in 1986...I remember that board well, I rode it in huge Sunset, Pipeline and back home off the southside of the Breakwater that winter and the one day I'll never forget, the day shortly after this shot was taken when Jamie Perez and I and others rode the Breakwater until it got too big and then Jay Adams and I jumped of the Venice Pier and surfed 20 foot faces about a 1/4 mile of the end of the pier...
Great surfboard, though I broke it the next winter a huge El Porto...

I am guessing but The two pix look like Randy to me.
You know, 00125 and 00126 (this gallery) are from basically the same swell....talk about misjudging the sets! I bet there were some dirty shorts out there that day....

Thats a deep take off, can't go too deep or you won't make it.
There was a couple big storms in the 80's that you could hear the rocks moving when the waves crashed on them. But for the most part that Breakwater handles pretty good.
I have seen with my own eyes people walk on the rocks to get a good look at the ocean (tourist of course) and POW a big wave will knock them off, some need an ambulance..
Cuz some storms the waves don't break constantly. People think it's flat and it's not, then a set will come and TRAP people in between the rocks, and they have to hold on for dear life.
