It is the biggest building in Romania and was the erected at the will of the dictator Ceausescu, during the last years of dictatorship. Ceausescu and his wife were killed during the Romanian "revolution" in 1989. If you want to know more about the revolution, read "A hole in the Flag" by Andrei Kodrescu...I'm reading it now.
