Buddha's Doorway

Nara view map

Flowers and greens decorate a doorway to commemorate Buddha's (Birthday)
special day. This temple houses Rushana; Japan's largest bronze
statue. This Buddha is the "Cosmic Buddha" and he presides over all levels
of the Buddhist universe! In 752 the Buddha's eyes were painted in
to awaken the Buddha, with ambassadors from China, India and other countries
attendingand Emperor Shomo and Empress Komyo. At that time Nara was the capital of Japan.
