Peyto Lake/Bow Summit

Banff National Park, Canada

Taken at sunrise, this is about 30 minutes (40 km) north of Lake Louise on the Ice Fields Parkway. Bow Summit is 2088 m (6849') above sea level, near treeline. The brilliant turquoise Peyto Lake, in July and August, is an astonishing array of alpine flowers.

GORGEOUS! I love the colour of those glacial lakes - the turquoise is amazing! This is just beautiful - the colours and shadows and textures. The mountains are so amazing in real life and you've captured that beauty here! Perfect!

Thank you Dennis. That is the way it is until the sun hits the lake and then it is gone. I used a grad nd filter taking the shot. In PS I did a little tweaking: shadows/highlights; warm 81 filter; auto contrast; 20% color boost and USM after resizing. One of the most beautiful places in the world for a holiday (Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, etc.) :-)

Gary, this shot is spectacular! What a perfect reflection off the lake. Did you do anything in Photoshop to make those colors so vivid -- or is that the way it really is up there? I'm thinking I could use a vacation. :)
