The original bell was located in front of Hy's Steak House on 4th Ave. when Peters & Co., a Calgary stock brokerage firm opened for business in July 1971.
The inspiration of the bell came from Lloyd's of London who rang their bell after a major disaster.
Conversely, this bell was rung in celebration every time the firm made a big trade or closed a major underwriting.
