Over the past 2 days we have been watching this male baby hummingbird develop. We first noticed it on the feeder. It was feeding, but very unstable. Then I noticed it fall to the ground.. about 5 feet to a convrete pad. It landed with a surprising loud thum on its back and had trouble uprighting itself. It was eventually successful and a male (father I guess) landed on it and tried to carry it off. It was enough to get them both up and away. This image is from today after another fall from the feeder and it is now resting in the shrubs..
