Male American Kestrel.. Departing

Central Iowa Countryside

MOST DEPARTING FLIGHT SHOTS ARE NOT VERY WORTHY..
THIS ONE STRUCK ME WITH THE COLOR AND BECAUSE HE
SEEMS TO BE LOOKING AT ME..

MOST KESTRELS ARE SHY AND ARE DIFFICULT TO APPROACH..
THIS MALE WAS DIFFERENT AND LET ME GET WITHIN 20 YARDS
BEFORE HE GOT NERVOUS AND FLEW.. BUT ONLY A SHORT DISTANCE

IT WAS VERY PREDICTABLE WHEN HE WOULD FLY AS HE BOBBED HIS
HEAD, MOVED HIS WINGTIPS, POOPED.. THEN FLEW...

Nikon D300 ,Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S VR
1/2000s f/8.0 at 400.0mm iso800 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto
