Ice on Belle Isle

Belle Isle, Detroit, MI view map

We visited Belle Isle, an island in the middle of the Detroit River and a jewel for the city of Detroit.
We went first to the Nature Zoo, which was very interesting, and were driving back across
the island on our way to the Conservatory when we saw this amazing giant sized blue icy "thing".
I wanted to show the enormity of it so chose an image with Sayer in it for scale... :)
We have no idea what it is or why it is there. There is a fine mist of water constantly
spraying out of the top as you can see from this image, which almost immediately turns to
ice, adding to the shape. Underneath all that cool ice is some kind of fir tree.
Does anyone from Michigan know what it is??

We bumped into fellow Pbasers Estralita and Papajim in the Nature ZOo, it was good to see
them. PBase is a nice community, isn't it? :)

Pbase is a very nice community. I've never actually bumped into anyone accidentally but I've been to a lot of the same places, like this one here. I've seen this structure but wasn't sure how to make it look right. You and Sayer did a nice job, Tricia. More people should visit Belle Isle.

A well composed and interesting shot, Tricia. The great sky and buildings add interest, as well as Sayer for scale. It can melt any time soon!

It could be used for ice climbing competitions -

An amazing ice structure, Tricia. (V)
Love the cyan tones in the ice and the inclusion of a figure gives the whole thing a sense of scale.
