Goldflame Honeysuckle (Lonicera x heckrottii)

Austin, Texas

This was a beautiful plant when Mom first put it in for me, but has since developed a bad case of powdery mildew. According to the information I've been reading, this may have to do with the lack of sufficient air circulation from being so close to the fence and the deep shade from the trees on the other side probably isn't helping much. An entry at mobot.org also notes that "Powdery mildew and leaf spots may occur, particularly in hot and humid summer climates...", which we have in abundance here in central Texas. I guess this just wasn't meant to be here. Will have to try something else next year.
