I bought these painted ceramic butterflies in Sintra, Portugal many years ago.
Memories of a terribly rude group of New Yorkers always comes to my mind when I see these hanging in my kitchen.
An older woman grabbed the basket of butterflies from me in the ceramics shop and yelled out, "Butterflies! I just love butterflies!" Then she asked her husband, "Sidney ~ how much are these in American money?"
I sympathized with the shop keeper as I witnessed these barbarians from my country.
