Red Headed Woodpecker

I saw this red headed woodpecker and its mate at Cape May Point on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the first time in my life I have ever seen one!!
Truly a memorable experience for me!

I used to watch the Woody Woodpecker show when I was a little tot; this video clip brings back a flood of memories!

I spent two hours chasing a pair in thick forest, got lots of branches with lil red humps. They are very evasive.

They're getting harder to find now day due to babitat loss. I used to see them all the time when I was a school kid, now I've seen only 1 or 2 in the last 3 to 4 years.

Wonderful ! I know what you mean, I spotted a woodpecker for the very first time about a month ago, but didn't have my camera in my hand ! I was so excited to see it though !
