Having mentioned Bellwood and an IHB set-out, does anyone have information regarding the IHB trestle that connected the CGW/IHB behind Sun Electric paralleling Madison St to just west of Eastern Ave? I grew up in the 3100 block of Wilcox (1951 -1969) and was trying to remember when the trestle was removed. I played all over that area as a kid and walked from Proviso to Broadview, just because we could. Dad owned Jay's TV 1120 Bellwood Ave. I've seen photos of the IHB shot from 25th and Madison looking West, with an IHB work train adding fill to raise the grade a bit south of Madison St. Can anyone point me in the direction of these pictures? Thanks, Jerry Jackson

Based on the shadows & time of year, this is # 91, a Westbound. The article indicates that it would shortly meet # 192, an Eastbound, due @ Bellwood, by 1pm, for a IHB setout. Although # 91 had a 12AM "call" @ the Chicago Transfer, it seldom left on time. The CGW liked to schedule meets on the double track between East Dubuque / Portage or Stockton / Golden I remember seeing # 91 pass my grandparent's homes @ South Freeport & then Byron, in the daylight, on many days. If it left on time it would pass b/4 daybreak.

I would say that this photo is of an eastbound train EXITING the tunnel, judging by the smoke rolling up and out of the portal. Great shot though, thanks for posting it, since the East portal has had very little recognition over the years.
