Aerial View of Sterling Illinois

Sterling Illinois

I recently bought this old postcard online.
It shows an Aerial View of Sterling Illinois. I believe that it was taken in the 1950-1960s but the card is not dated.
I need your help look at this photo and try to remember when the buildings represented existed.
I would like to know the year this view was taken please reply if you can help.
Please feel free to pass this around to others that grew up in the Sterling area.

Sterling has changed a lot in 50 Years.

The back of the Card reads
Aerial View of Sterling Illinois
Heart of American Hardware
114 miles west of Chicago on U.S. Route Alt 30 and Routes 2 and 88 in the beautiful Rock River Valley

What a great picture. I grew up in Rock Falls, so this was the way we got into Sterling. Klines clothing store was across from the grocery. It looks different from height. The bank building was the next block up, left side. I went to the dentist on the 6th floor there. The view looked similar but back towards Rock Falls. The Miami Hotel burned I think in 1970? National Mfg. is on the right as Lawrence Bros. is on the left as you cross the bridge. The bridge was widened with the underpass after 1980. The cars usually give the best clues though!

It wasnt an Econo Lodge, it was a Travel Lodge across from Klines.
I also dont think the grocery was a Kroger or Eagle, I think it was A&P.

My grandfather took the photo, I'll ask if he remembers when he took it.

When was the Econo Lodge built? That was the name IRRC, had a teddy bear for a logo. It's not in this picture.

If I remember right The old train depot in sterling was torn down Between 1970 & 75 so the picture should be around 65. I went to the service in 66 from the Miami Hotel and once again in 67 from the train depot. So I am going to say between 1960 and 65
