No Story is Complete with out Acknowledging those that gave there all.
Naturally, Constructing a 2500-foot tunnel thru hard blue shale was very dangerous. Scores of Men were injured, and on March 12, 1887, John Hill, a 31-year-old Finnish immigrant laborer, was killed while digging the West portal.

The Inscription reads:
John Hill
Born in Finland
June 13, 1859
Killed at
West End of Tunnel
March 12, 1887

This is the only known Death during the construction of the Winston Tunnel.

This was not the only death during the construction of the tunnel. I have documentation of a couple of others.

This Grave is at a little Cemetary around the corner from the Tunnel. go north on Rocky Hill Road a mile or so to Cemetary Road. the marker is not that hard to find once you are in the cemetary.

is this grave at the cemetery on Irvin road on Blackjack? (between the tunnel and Hanover)
