Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific
Depot at Brodhead, Wisconsin
In 1856 the Milwaukee & Mississippi railroad laid its tracks through the prairie between Decatur & Clarence, Wisconsin. The town gained its name from Edward Brodhead, the chief engineer of the railroad. The first depot was built in 1857 but it only lasted till early July 1881, when a spectacular fire burned it down. By July 15th construction on the new depot (pictured here) had already begun. The building uses Milwaukee brick, and is 100 feet long and 30 feet wide. It has a baggage & freight room, telegraph office and two waiting rooms, one for ladies and one for men...
