Soviet War Memorial

Berlin

This statue is the top of the Soviet War Memorial on the Cenotaph in Berlin-Tiergarten. It was erected in memory of the 80,000 Soviet soldiers KIA during the assault of Berlin in 1945. About 2,500 soldiers were buried at the site ...

The photo was taken in the British sector of Berlin ... note the barbed wire atop the Berlin Wall.

The wall no longer remains. I was born in Berlin but have yet to go back. I need to, I need to see where I was born!
