It all started last night.
It was dark. I was on my way home.
My headlights brushed on a car parked on the side of the road.
I could just recognize the outline, it was an old Jaguar.
I've never seen this model in person, only on a british TV show.
There was a "For Sale" sign.
I made a mental note to return.
This morning I went out for breakfast.
Afterwards, I decided a closer inspection was in order.
As I made the trek out to where I'd seen the car, my mind was a whir of questions.
Did it run? What was the condition? How much was it going for?
I had visions of this beauty sitting in my garage.
But why was it on the side of the road?
No serious car person would sell this car this way.
Perhaps the owner didn't realize what they had?
Oh the possibilities!
When I pulled up, all my questions were answered.
I couldn't tell how bad it was last night as I drove past in the dark.
Riddled with rust. Rubber disintegrated. Interior rotted.
And a big wad of chewing gum stuck to the hood ornament's head.
Sigh. Oh, well. For a little while it was a sweet little dream...
