Felicitaciones por este magnífico trabajo. Soy Luis Eduardo Alvarez vivo en Bogotá Colombia y estudio los insectos polinizadores de las orquídeas. La mosca Syrphida poliniza las orquídeas del Género Phragmipedium, he criado algunas desde larvas y he registrado tanto fotos como videos de todo el proceso. Me gustaría intercambiar experiencias con Ustedes, pues tengo fotos de una especie que parece no estar en su colección.

Very nice collection of photos. I was looking to identify a very large hornet (Vespa sp) mimic that I saw yesterday (11 August 2006) entering the nest of a wasp (Vespula sp) in my house in South West London. I thought it was a syrphid. Had a yellow face and yellow and brown banded abdomen. Folded its wings together above its abdomen to walk into the wasps' nest. After emerging I saw it on a bush in another part of the garden with its wings held in the delta angle as most other syrphids. The wasps were around it but ignored it - depsite its being about 8 times the bulk. Perhaps they thought it was a queen.
