If I had done this shot with a 400mm lens on a 35 mm SLR camera at f/8, I know from experience that I had to decide where I wanted to place the very limited depth of field: on the eye or on the wing (on the eye, of course). With f/7.6 and physical 89mm there was no decision needed with the Coolpix as with any other digicam with a similarily small sensor. I focused on the wing and the eye was still inside the depth of field. --tinu--
