Pike County Courthouse

Pittsfield, Illinois view map

We are on our 2,000 mile trek between Arizona and Wisconsin. We don't usually stop for photo ops (or we would never get there.) Today, I was driving past this gem and I just had to pull over. I did a quick jog around the square to pick out my POV. I also photographed this sign that gives some of the history. Abe Lincoln tried some cases in the original courthouse. This is the third county courthouse in Pittsfield and the fourth Pike County Courthouse. It was constructed in 1894. Lincoln gave speeches in the courtyard. [img][/img]

Such a beautiful old building, the flag is placed just spot on.

Nice work with the flag right over the building. Justice for all! :) Love the light!

Reminds me of a famous courthouse in Kansas...beautifully done.
Glad you are getting close to home...

Definitely worth the stop for this fine architecural shot. The conditions were perfect.
