Light in the Trees

This is a line of defense for U.S. Grant's left flank inner perimeter. The soldiers manning this battery were a last line..the headquarters was 500 yards through the trees, and the Tennessee River is literally close enough behind them to toss one the many acorns on this ground, into the water.

Steve:
I agree with you. Our Civil War is the ultimate stupidity.
But, those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
There were more casualties at Shiloh, proportionate to the US population, than there were in the ENTIRE Vietnam conflict on the US side.
Dan Rather came 100 years too late!

Very nice shot Michael. I always find it slightly disturbing to visit old battlefields where time has erased the scars of battles past and to see such beauty in places memorializing death and destruction. On the other hand, I feel that these memorials are important historical markers.

I like your composition, with the path in front of the canons, Michael. The
lighting is quite attractive.
