A very touching, honored site in the Shiloh National Military Cemetary...how old could he have been...14? 15?

Yes, Hal, initially. Some family members are buried beside loved ones later. The Confederate dead were all buried by Grant's men in large open pits, unmarked, despite pleas from families in Corinth, MS to be allowed to come and retrieve their dead. Grant wrote General Beauregard and said this could not, and woukd not be allowed. He said the warm weather in that second week in April was the reason.

A most moving photograph, Michael. A simple drummer boy. And l wonder who rated the large stone at the back. Are all these stones marking Northern casualties ?
