Yes I have been to Gettysburg twice but not Illinois... my whole city is full of canons that probably were left over from the war of 1812 that never got a chance to be used.. Interesting scene well composed.

Barry: The memorial represent the location where a number of men, here about 6" manned an artillery battery during the American civil war. Losses in this battery, of men from Iowa, were 40%, with another 25% wounded, which , in 1862 , had a high liklihood of becoming fatalities. This battery was overrun by the Confederates in the afternoon of April 6, 1862. Wndey, Cindi and Cindy and Bob: thanks for your comments. I don't tire of shooting that amazingly beautiful place...

Hi Michael, l find that Shiloh affects me profoundly. l've been on other battle fields, from WW 1, with acres of grave-stones, each representing a life wasted, like at Verdun in France, Senseless ! But this was a war killing kids from different states of the same country. l find your photos particularly haunting, Michael.

Thanks, Terry. That place is SO profound, as our buddy Hal has suggested. It really needs black and white, IMO. Get over this way, I'll take you around. The place is unforgettable. I'll be driving through every day for the next few years, hopefully. The ghosts are everywhere...you can hear them if you try.

Beautifully composed, Michael. Reminds me so much of our Roadscholar week at Gettysburg a few years ago. B&W is most appropriate to reflect the solemnity of the place.
