Lest We Forget

The week between Memorial Day and the anniversary of D-Day is a special time for me. Having had a family member who parachuted into St. Lo at about 0015 on 6June 1944, we must remember their sacrifices.
This memorial is a new, touching reminder of another day. At Shiloh, as I have told Hal, there are times when,if you listen, it is SO quiet, you can still hear the guns, if you try. While shooting this image, I could, and shortly thereafter, the rumble of thunder from an approaching morning thunderstorm made the rumble even more audible.
May we never forget the sacrifices our families made for freedom...

This is very moving Michael. A somber story.
Beautifully photographed

This is a timely reminder, as we have just had the anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation when Britain was at it's most vunerable and this is D-day when spirits were on the up but such a heavy price was paid particularly by Americans on that day.
My Father was present on D-day in the Navy in a ship that had been shelling (softening up) the emeny defences.

Thanks for the excellent reminder... freedom is not free!

Freedom... the most expensive thing in the universe that will likely never cost you anything because someone else already paid for you.
