Just south of the Evolution Basin, above the head of LeConte Canyon, is The Black Giant. One of the most direct routes to the Evolution Basin crosses the crest of the Sierra Nevada at Echo Col, then drops briefly into LeConte Canyon before ascending to Muir Pass and into the Basin. The Black Giant fairly dominates the scene when you cross Echo Col and hike around Lake 11,428' (foreground in this image).
