#074 Cutting Edge

I had a long day today, I drove 450 mile round trip to Wakefield and back for a meeting, spent 8 hours in the car and 3 hours in the meeting. Camera was in the boot all the way there and back but I was with a colleague who was a bit down (personal problems !) so it didn't seem right to stop for photos !

When I got home I thought I'd experiment with extreme macro. I mounted my 100mm macro onto extension tubes and taped my 50mm prime lens backwards on the front of the lens. I haven't calculated the magnification yet, but this is the cutting edge of a serrated steak knife !

Some shots to explain & a few others with the rig :

Excellent detail ! I assume this is manual focus. I can't seen to get the hang of doing that....

Where on earth did you get the idea to put on the 50mm backwards!!!!! Ingenious! Makes up for us not being very good at sports!

Sounds like that your friend who had a hard time motivated you to play with knives...as long as it was save.. I love that edge you placed the macro on. I would not have been able to guess what this image is off, but you have a great effect here. On all your pictures actually.

You're kidding! Wow, the extremes you go to. Just excellent, I thought it was a broken roof tile.

I thought you'd been experimenting on a chunk of wood with a jig saw.

Extreme macro for sure... Looks more like wood! Good work. Love the colour in the toothbrush.
Guest 15-Mar-2005 23:59
Wow! that really is extreme - practically microscopic! - even with the explanation I still can't 'see' how it's a knife blade!
