These chicks were in a pond at a particularly busy spot, the entrance to Lucy Evans Center, where the main walking/biking trail intersects the boardwalk out through the marsh to the edge of the bay. The two parents were paying the price for this bad placement of their original nest; the traffic had them even more stressed that is usual for adults guarding newly hatched and vulnerable chicks.
