Avocets and Stilts co-exist all year around on the edge of the salt marsh at Palo Alto Baylands; both species nest there, and both had downy chicks at the time of this photo. The chicks apparently had them on edge, as this female Avocet chased this male Stilt away when he got nearer than she liked to her foraging chick.
